Dance Department Photo/Galih Tata

The dance department of ISI Yogyakarta had a distant guest, Jimy Oktolongere Andin, S.Sn., M.Pd. on June 21, 2022. This man from Kalimantan who is familiarly called Pak Jimy is an alumnus of the ISI Yogyakarta dance department. He currently teaches at the Department of Sendratasik at Palangka Raya University.

Mr. Jimy's arrival this time brought something different, namely the knowledge of Central Kalimantan dance from the Dayak tribe to be learned by students majoring in dance. The typical music of Kalimantan has been heard in the pendhapa of the ISI Yogyakarta dance department since 10.00 that morning. Arjuni Prasetyorini, M.Sn. who acted as the host introduced Mr. Jimy in front of 20 workshop participants. Not to forget the Head of the Dance Department, Dr. Rina Martiara, in her speech encouraged the participants to be open and love to learn new things for body experience and richness of thought.

South Kalimantan Dance Basic Movement Training. Participants formed a circle floor pattern, then a student became the leader of the warm-up movement in the center of the circle. Faintly, music with Kalimantan nuances played. Mr. Jimy invited participants to imagine the nature and atmosphere of Kalimantan. The warm-up continued with an introduction to the various dance movements of the Dayak tribe in Central Kalimantan, starting with footwork, hands, and body posture. Mr. Jimy shared knowledge and movements of social dance with a cloth property around the neck. This social dance has a participatory nature, the audience can dance with the dancers. After learning the 6 (six) movements taught by Mr. Jimy, students were then given the freedom to create floor patterns and develop movements in groups. The workshop ended with a group mini showcase followed by dancing together. Three hours had passed, and the tiredness of the day paid off with excitement and new knowledge.

Jimy Oktolongere gives an explanation to the workshop participants.
