Five students of the Dance Department won first place in the Independence Day Competition 2022. The competition was part of the celebration of the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia organized by JacQueen launched by PT Loh Jinawi Teknologi. The competition was held at The Praja Coffee and Resto, Yogyakarta on August 27, 2022.
Five Dance Department students performed a group dance entitled “Spirit of Kamardikan”. The first winner in the group dance was Dwi Nusa Aji Winarno, Elvin Anderson, Johanna Ivena Marchella Christy, Faradhiba Putri Ananta, and Komang Andreani. All students who are members of the competing dance groups come from different batches, starting from the class of 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
The theme of the JackQueen competition was a combination of ethnic, modern and independence dance. The Spirit of Kamardikan performed by Dwi Nusa Aji Winarno et al is closely related to the history of the Indonesian people's struggle for independence. One of the important historical events in the struggle movement by the Indonesian people is the events that took place in the city of Surabaya, East Java, namely the Yamato Hotel incident and November 10. This memorable history throughout Indonesian history is what inspires students of the Dance Department to reflect the spirit of struggle in the form of dance works which ultimately led Dwi Nusa Aji Winarno et al to become winners in the Independence Day Competition in 2022.
