The Department of Dance ISI Yogyakarta consistently carries out community service as an important part of the tridarma of higher education. Every year, lecturers and students are involved in fostering, empowering, and developing art areas facilitated by LPPM ISI Yogyakarta. This activity is carried out collaboratively with other study programs and reaches out to various art communities in the Yogyakarta area and its surroundings. Through a participatory approach, this service program encourages preservation, revitalization, and innovation in community-based performing arts.
Some examples of service activities that reflect this commitment include mentoring art groups in Baciro Village, Kemantren Gondokusuman by Dra. Tutik Winarti, M.Hum; strengthening community performing arts in Borobudur District, Magelang by Arjuni Prasetyorini; and developing traditional arts such as Jathilan, new creation dance, Thoklik, Reog, Slawatan, and Gejonglesung in Gunungkidul Regency by Dra. Erlina Pantja. Meanwhile, Galih Prakasiwi initiated dance learning for children in Bawuran Village, Pleret District, Bantul. Through this kind of activity, community service becomes an important means to strengthen the relationship between art education institutions and the socio-cultural life of the community.
