The group dance of Dance Department students managed to beat competitors from 6 universities in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Five Dance Department students who joined a group dance team at Peksimiprov (Provincial Student Art Week), Lintang Ayodya Wahyu Aji, Ganggas Hatma Pramudita, Ilham Triwiastomo, Lucky Wisnu Marga Pratama, and Krisna Aji, won first place among eight dance works performed in the 2022 competition.
One of the biggest competitions in Yogyakarta was attended by several educational institutions in Yogyakarta, namely Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD), Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta State University (UNY), Polytechnic of Plantation Education Institute (LPP) Yogyakarta, and Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University (UST). ISI Yogyakarta issued 2 contingents from the Department of Dance and Performing Arts Education.
The dance competition was held on September 6, 2022 and the championship was announced on September 9, 2022. The contingent from the Dance Department carried a work entitled “Pereng” in this year's Peksimiprov. Pereng means a slope that depicts agility, vigilance, and a spirit that never goes out. Pereng is inspired by Yogyakarta's batik motif, the parang motif. The parang motif was created when Penembahan Senopati meditated on the South Coast. The motif resembles the letter S and weaves twists inspired by the large waves that continue to hit the reef. The use of batik parang motif has certain limitations, namely the large parang motif can only be worn by a king. However, along with the times, people have been free to wear the parang motif while still implementing the rules of using parang motif batik.
The dance work, which has a philosophical meaning related to batik, led the dance department students to win the dance competition at the Peksimiprov event, which the team will return to compete at the national level, namely Peksiminas (National Student Art Week).
